Milk Body Polish --- the natural way!

There are so many luxurious body scrubs and milk baths in stores today, and I have to say nothing else compares to this simple but very effective Milk Body Polish my mom taught me. If you feel like pampering yourself, or preparing your skin for that "fake" tan, you can try this recipe and you'll see how smooth your skin will be!

Things we need:

Brown sugar
Milk
Ripe papaya (optional but recommended)

Directions:

If you're using ripe papaya, mash it and mix with the milk. This may smell awful but it's very good for your body. It gives you that natural "glow." It lightens your skin too.

Get inside the tub. Make sure your skin is dry.

Gently lather some milk-papaya mixture on your arms and rub some brown sugar on it. Softly exfoliate your skin, making sure you're doing round circular motions slowly. You don't want to scratch your skin.

Do this to the rest of your body.

Let it stand for 10 minutes. Rinse.

*TIPS: It's best not to soap your body after so the papaya and milk can seep through. You can do this before bed time or if you stay at home all day.

Clay Recipe

This clay recipe is a simple homemade recipe. There is no baking or cooking involved and when it hardens, it can be used for jewelry beads as well. Some cute earrings are gonna come out of these. This does not come out like polymer clay though. I've read somewhere that you can't make homemade polymer clay. Sigh. Oh well, this should be close enough. I'm gonna experiment different styles and shapes with these and we'll see what color matches the mother of pearl pendants.

Things we need:

2 cups baking soda
1 cup flour
1-1/4 cups water
poster, water color or acrylic paint
mica (optional)

In a saucepan, add 1 cup flour and 2 cups baking soda and mix well.

Pour the water in and heat until the mixture is moist like mashed potato consistency.

Take it out and let cool.

Knead the though like you would making bread.

This is the fun part. You can form the clay with your hands, like round beads, square or diamond however you like it. Or, you can roll out the clay 1/4 inch thick and cut them out with cookie cutters.

Before the clay hardens, poke a hole using a bobby pin, needle or wire so you can string them later on.

This clay can be painted when dry. Have fun creating your own designs and dust some mica or shimmer powder to finish.

...Voila!

Potato Beads Recipe

Did you know that you can make some awesome beads out of potatoes? That's right...

Things we need:

  • 2 Potatoes
  • pin or wire for making holes
  • knife
  • latex paint

Peel and cut the potatoes into cubes. You can experiment with other designs such as circles with diamond cuts.

Note: Potatoes might shrink during the drying process so you might want to give an allowance on the measurements.

String the potatoes using your wire and let it dry for several days. The drier the better.

When it turns gray and hard, you can paint them over with latex paint and make marble effects and just have fun with them. Your friends will never know those marvelous jewels came from the kitchen ;)

Enjoy!

Mother of Pearl pendants

I am sooo excited! My dad sent me a box of Mother of Pearl pendants from the Philippines so I can add more products for my online store, http://www.shandles.com/ . Some of those pendants were my designs, but most of them were stock items. My dad's in the shell craft business. He exports them to different countries around the world. Most of his buyers are from Russia i think. None in the USA yet. So, mini me dreams of starting my own shell craft business soon in America. Well it doesn't hurt to dream. :)

Let's see.. it's been 10 days and the package didn't arrive yet. I don't know how long international shipping takes though. I guess I'll just have to be patient.

tick. tock. tick.

Oh, did I tell you how much I hate waiting?! Grrrr

Bar of HAND Soap Recipe

Okay, who am I kidding! make my own recipes? dang. So I needed some help here and there, some research and I finally found something easy. What we will be making today is a "a bar of HAND soap" --- literally!

So what we're gonna need:

  • white or clear soap base
  • 4 soap clips
  • disposable latex glove
  • soap colorant
  • 2 same size containers
  • rubbing alcohol

1. Secure latex gloves with clips in between 2 containers.
2. Take your glycerine soap and cut them into small cubes. Heat inside the microwave not too long, just enough to melt.

3. At this point you can add soap colorant and fragrance of your choice.

Note: Allow the soap to cool before pouring inside the secured latex glove. If the soap is too hot, this will cause the glove to sag or melt the latex material.

4. When it reaches a batter consistency, pour inside the latex gloves. Spray with rubbing alcohol to eliminate bubbles.

5. Leave soap for a few hours till it's set.

6. When the soap is ready, peel out the latex glove carefully

.... and DONE!

Welcome To My Artsy World

This blog is all about PINK. LUSH. POSH! Interesting artsy stuff! It all started when I've been building my own website, http://www.shandles.com/. Yep, me myself and I. It's crazy and fun at the same time. So what's so special about my site? Well, It's a collection of all things beautiful.. from candles, bath bombs, sea shells, jewelry, soaps with exceptional designs. Check out my site at http://shandles.com/ and you'll see what I mean ;)

Anyway, this has inspired me to make my own arts and crafts at home. And I will be posting some artsy recipes on here so feel free to use them when you're bored lol. Oh, and some might need some tweaking so comment me when it doesn't come out right.

Another thing that lead into this "blog's existence" is my passion for shells namely mother of pearl shells, paua shells and mabe pearl. I have been looking for these gorgeous jewels of the sea that I have some artistically carved shell pendants shipped from south east asia specifically the Pearl of the Orient.

Since I am still starting up, you may notice I have limited stocks available at shandles.com but don't worry I will keep updating my site when the new candles and shells will arrive.. hopefully very soon!
